Dhaka, Nov 05 (V7N)- On Tuesday (November 5), the 35 Aspirant Students Coordination Council issued a one-week ultimatum to the government, demanding that the age limit for entering government jobs be increased from 32 to 35 years. Shariful Hasan Shuvo, the council’s convener, announced this in a press release sent to the media.
The council's statement explained that students have long been demanding an increase in the age limit to 35 for government job applications. In response, the current interim government established a recommendation committee on September 30 to address the issue. Initially, the committee suggested raising the age limit to 35 for men and 37 for women within seven working days, forwarding the recommendation to the advisory committee.
However, the government decided on October 24 to set the age limit at 32 with a maximum of three attempts for the Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS) exams. Subsequently, on October 31, this was amended to allow four attempts at BCS. Shuvo criticized the decision, describing it as a "farce" with students who had hoped for more substantive reform.
The press release expressed optimism that, given the government’s recent adjustments to BCS regulations, a change in the overall government job entry age from 32 to 35 could be expected in the next meeting. The council’s convener urged the government to issue a formal notification on the revised age limit within a week to address students' long-standing concerns.
