Dhaka, Nov 15 (V7N) — Legal Advisor Asif Nazrul highlighted the significant challenges in prosecuting those responsible for disappearances and abductions during a program organized by the Asian Federation Against Voluntary Disappearance in Dhaka on Friday. He attributed these difficulties to the deep-rooted nature of fascism and the complexities of addressing 15 years of alleged oppressive rule within a short period.
“It is difficult to deal with the entrenched structures of a 15-year regime in just a few weeks, even for the commission,” Asif Nazrul remarked. Despite these challenges, he emphasized the government’s commitment to supporting the victims' families. "We are considering rehabilitation and compensation for the families of disappearance victims. We plan to introduce a law to address legal challenges and ensure rehabilitation measures. While we may face limitations in resources, our sincerity is unwavering," he added.
At the same event, Industry Advisor Adilur Rahman stressed the importance of justice, not only for the families of those subjected to disappearances and extrajudicial killings but also for all individuals who experienced oppression under the Awami League’s rule over the past decade and a half. "Justice is a universal priority, crucial for everyone who endured state-inflicted suffering," Rahman stated.
