Dhaka, Nov 17 (V7N) - The Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD) has identified that Bangladesh's economy lags behind those of Sri Lanka and Nepal and outlined three major challenges it is likely to face in the next two years.

During a dialogue titled ‘Business Environment Reform in Bangladesh: Interim Government's Agenda’ at the Brac Centre in Mohakhali, CPD Research Director Dr. Khondkar Golam Mouazzem presented these findings.

The report highlighted not only economic risks such as inflation, recession, poverty, and inequality but also social challenges, including unemployment, fuel shortages, and an increasing prevalence of chronic illnesses like heart disease, cancer, and diabetes. These health concerns contribute to declining social well-being.

Special envoy of the chief adviser on International Affairs, Prof. Lutfey Siddiqui, attended the discussion as the chief guest, while CPD Executive Director Fahmida Khatun chaired the session.

Dr. Mouazzem stated, “The report is based on a decade of data from various sectors, including services, agriculture, manufacturing, and non-manufacturing. It reveals that Bangladesh lags behind Sri Lanka and India in business competitiveness. Despite its economic growth, the country remains far behind in terms of business competition.”
