Dhaka, Nov 18 (V7N) – Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) has stated that the fall of the authoritarian Awami League government represents the most significant political, diplomatic, and strategic defeat for India in its history. TIB called on India to adopt a more constructive approach toward the new political landscape in Bangladesh.

Speaking at a press conference on Monday in Dhanmondi, TIB Executive Director Dr. Iftekharuzzaman said, “India cannot accept this monumental defeat, politically, diplomatically, or strategically. They lack the courage to acknowledge it.”

The event was organized to present TIB’s observations on the first 100 days of "New Bangladesh" following the regime change.

Dr. Iftekharuzzaman noted that Bangladesh has embraced a new era of international relations, emphasizing mutual assistance and cooperation with all nations. He expressed hope for improved ties with India but criticized India’s inability to adapt to the changes.

“India continues to view Bangladesh through a lens that supports authoritarianism,” he said, warning that this stance poses risks for India’s role as a stabilizing force in the region.

He also criticized Indian media for their portrayal of Bangladesh, calling it “risky” and “disturbing.” He added, “This creates embarrassment for us and shame for India. They must reconsider their approach.”

TIB praised Bangladesh's interim government for maintaining an open-door policy toward India, emphasizing the importance of fostering positive bilateral relations. “India is our biggest neighbor, and we want to maintain a positive relationship,” Dr. Iftekharuzzaman added.

Earlier, TIB Senior Research Fellow Shahzada M. Akram presented a report titled "New Bangladesh: Observations on the First 100 Days after the Fall of the Authoritarian Regime." The report outlined concerns over India’s reluctance to acknowledge the regime change and its potential destabilizing effects on Bangladesh’s transitional process.

Akram highlighted the strained diplomatic ties, adding that India’s refusal to adapt to the post-authoritarian reality, along with alleged conspiratorial actions by the deposed regime in India, could hinder Bangladesh's progress.
