Dhaka, Nov 19 (V7N) – The Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the World Bank are set to disburse $600 million and $500 million, respectively, in loan assistance to Bangladesh by December, according to Finance Secretary Dr. Md. Khairuzzaman Mozumder.

Speaking at a press conference at the Ministry of Finance on Tuesday, marking the interim government’s 100 days in office, Dr. Khairuzzaman revealed that the interim administration’s policies have been positively received by donor agencies, including the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank.

“Our government’s policy measures have exceeded expectations in securing funding. The ADB has agreed to provide $600 million, while the World Bank will disburse $500 million by December,” he stated.

He noted that the initial loan commitments were significantly increased through successful negotiations, with ADB’s pledge rising from $300 million to $600 million and the World Bank’s from $250 million to $500 million.

Additionally, the finance secretary disclosed that the government is in discussions with the IMF for an additional $1 billion in financial support for the year. These talks are expected to conclude during the IMF team's visit on December 4.

“We remain optimistic about securing the additional support and implementing policies effectively to maintain international confidence,” he added.

The press conference was chaired by Finance Adviser Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed.
