Khagrachhari, June 26 (V7N) — Brigadier General Hasan Mahmud, the newly appointed Commander of the Khagrachhari Region, has declared a policy of zero tolerance against any attempts to disrupt communal harmony in the Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT).
The statement came during a courtesy meeting with local journalists held on Thursday afternoon at the auditorium of the Cantonment Public School & College, organized by the Khagrachhari Region headquarters.
Brigadier General Mahmud emphasized that sustainable peace and communal harmony are indispensable for achieving the desired development goals in the hill tracts. “There is no alternative to peaceful coexistence and communal solidarity in ensuring the overall progress of this region,” he said.
He also called upon the media to play an impartial and objective role in protecting the environment and promoting fundamental rights such as education and healthcare for the hill people. “Journalists are the conscience of society. Their balanced reporting can make a real difference in addressing the challenges faced by marginalized communities in the region,” the Region Commander added.
Also present at the event were Lieutenant Colonel Khademul Islam, Commander of Khagrachhari Sadar Zone, along with senior officers including representatives from the region’s BM (Brigade Major) and G2I (General Staff Intelligence) branches.
The event served not only as a formal introduction of the new commander to the media fraternity but also as a reaffirmation of the army’s commitment to fostering peace, development, and inclusivity in the sensitive and strategically important hill districts.
Editor’s Note:
The Chittagong Hill Tracts, comprising Khagrachhari, Rangamati, and Bandarban, has a long history of ethnic diversity and socio-political complexity. Maintaining communal harmony in this region is critical to ensuring both national security and regional development.
