DHAKA, June 29 (V7N) – Thirteen senior police officers in Bangladesh have been suspended from service due to their prolonged absence from their respective workplaces, with indications that many did not return to duty following the significant political changeover on August 5 of last year.
The Public Security Division of the Home Ministry recently issued separate notifications confirming these suspensions. During their period of suspension, the officers will be entitled to a subsistence allowance, a payment designed to cover basic living expenses. The official notifications stated that these orders were issued in the "public interest."
The suspended officers include three Superintendents of Police (SP), eight Additional Superintendents of Police, and two Assistant Superintendents of Police. Their continued absence is understood to be linked to the political upheaval and subsequent change in government that occurred on August 5, 2024. Following this event, there were widespread reports of police officers staying off duty or even going into hiding, fearing repercussions or facing issues of trust within the force.
The list of suspended officers includes:
Masudur Rahman Monir, Additional SP and Acting Company Commander of RAB-8 Barishal
Former Additional Deputy Commissioner of DMP S.M. Shamim
Rubaiyat Zaman, Additional SP at In-Service Training Centre, Sunamganj
Mohammad Imrul, ASP of 8 APBn in Ukhiya
Hasanuzzaman Mollah, Additional SP at DIG APBn Office (Hill Districts), Rangamati

S.M. Jahangir Hassan, Additional SP of River Police, Tangail
Mishu Biswas, Additional SP at In-Service Training Centre, Jamalpur

The Public Security Division is a key component of the Ministry of Home Affairs, responsible for overseeing civilian security agencies like the Bangladesh Police and ensuring public safety. This action against senior officers highlights the interim government's ongoing efforts to streamline law enforcement operations and address issues that arose in the aftermath of the political transition.
