Ukhiya, June 30 (V7N) — A high-level delegation from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) conducted a day-long visit to various Rohingya camps in Ukhiya, Cox’s Bazar on Sunday, June 29. The delegation was led by Ms. Miazaki Katsura, Senior Executive Vice President of JICA. Accompanying her were Mr. Tetsuya Yamada, South Asia Regional Director; Mr. Hayakazu Yoshida, Personal Secretary; Mr. Tomohide Ichiguchi, Chief Representative in Bangladesh; and Mr. Kojiro Kurahashi, Program Advisor.
 
According to the Refugee Relief and Repatriation Commission (RRRC) office, the delegation first visited the World Food Programme (WFP) and CODEC managed E-voucher food distribution center located in Block B-1 of Camp 4. They praised the use of modern technology-based e-cards by Rohingya refugees to collect essential food items such as rice, lentils, oil, and eggs.
 
Next, the group toured the Women’s Market in Block B-6 of Camp 5, operated by ActionAid and funded by UN Women. They observed vocational training programs in sewing, handicrafts, agriculture, and small business for Rohingya women. The delegation emphasized, “Women’s empowerment is the pathway to sustainable peace.”
 
The visitors then inspected learning centers run by UNICEF and BRAC, focusing on education and skill development for children and adolescents. Impressed by the teaching activities, they encouraged the students, saying, “These children will one day become symbols of humanity and leadership.”
 
The delegation also reviewed skills development programs for Rohingya youth, assuring continued support to create employment opportunities.
 
In the late afternoon, the group visited the Production Center in Block C-1 of Camp 4 Extension, managed by the NGO Forum and CNRS under UNHCR’s guidance. They witnessed various handicrafts and sewing training activities led by Rohingya women. They remarked, “The spark of hope we saw in these women’s eyes is our true inspiration.”
 
After concluding the visit at 4 PM, the delegation departed for Cox’s Bazar city. Expressing gratitude toward Bangladesh, JICA representatives stated, “The way Bangladesh has embraced this humanitarian responsibility sets a unique example for the world.”
