Dhaka, Dec 30 (V7N) — The Ministry of Home Affairs has directed followers of Tablighi Jamaat's Maulana Mohammad Zubair and Maulana Saad Kandhalvi to continue their respective activities in the mosques where they are currently operating, in an effort to maintain peace and order.
The directive, issued in an order signed by Dr. Mohammad Abdul Salam, Deputy Secretary of the Public Security Department, on Sunday, seeks to address ongoing tensions between the two factions. The statement urged both groups to confine their activities to their respective locations to prevent further conflicts.
In recent years, divisions between the two factions, known as the "Zubayrs" and the "Sadists," have escalated. The latest clash, which occurred on December 17, 2023, over control of the Bishwa Ijtema Maidan in Tongi, resulted in the deaths of four people and injuries to around 50 others. The incident highlighted the growing rift within the Tablighi Jamaat in Bangladesh.
In response to the clash, Tablighi Jamaat clerics and followers issued a 10-point demand, including a call for a judicial investigation into the incident. They have also urged the chief advisor to convene a compromise meeting with the leaders of both factions to defuse tensions.
Meanwhile, supporters of Maulana Zubair have strongly opposed any activities by Maulana Saad's followers, demanding justice for the December incident and restrictions on their rivals' activities at Kakrail Mosque and the Bishwa Ijtema grounds.
The Home Ministry's directive aims to de-escalate the situation by allowing both factions to continue their activities within designated areas while ensuring peace and order are maintained.
