Dhaka, Dec 31 (V7N) — The much-anticipated declaration of the July Uprising will now be announced by the interim government, not the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, as initially planned. In response, the movement has shifted its focus to a new program titled "March for Unity," to be held today at Shaheed Minar.

The situation took a dramatic turn on Monday night (December 30) after a statement by Chief Advisor's Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam outside the State Guest House Jamuna. Alam announced that the interim government, aiming to build national consensus, would issue the July Uprising Declaration.

This announcement prompted an emergency meeting of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement at their Bangla Motor office, attended by Advisor Asif Mahmud and top leaders of the National Citizens Committee. Following a three-and-a-half-hour discussion, Chief Organizer Abdul Hannan Masud addressed the media, confirming the movement would not issue the declaration but would support the government’s initiative. He alleged both domestic and international conspiracies to disrupt the program.

Shortly after, movement leaders clarified their stance further, emphasising that the decision was in the national interest. They announced the "March for Unity" as an alternative program, encouraging students and the public to gather in solidarity at Shaheed Minar.

Addressing rumours of internal conflict, the leaders categorically denied any divisions within their ranks, reaffirming their commitment to the cause of equality and justice.

The declaration of the July Uprising by the interim government is expected to be a pivotal moment, marking a step toward addressing long-standing issues of social discrimination. Meanwhile, the "March for Unity" aims to unite citizens in support of the broader struggle for equality and national harmony.
