Dhaka, Jan 04 (V7N) - Bangladesh continues to face perilous roads, with 8,543 lives lost and 12,608 people injured in road accidents across the country in 2024.

The alarming figures were revealed by Mojammel Hossain Chowdhury, General Secretary of Jatri Kalyan Samity, during its annual report on road accidents at a press conference held at the Dhaka Reporters' Unity (DRU) on Saturday.

In addition, 9,237 fatalities and 13,190 injuries were recorded in 6,974 accidents involving roads, railways, and waterways during the same period.

The report further noted that 497 railway accidents resulted in 512 deaths and 315 injuries. Additionally, 118 accidents on waterways led to 182 deaths, 267 injuries, and 155 people reported missing.

Among the road accidents, motorcycle crashes were particularly devastating, with 2,329 incidents causing 2,570 fatalities and 3,151 injuries.
