Dhaka, Jan 04 (V7N)— Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus assured that Bangladesh’s next national election would be conducted in a completely free and fair manner. He made this statement during a courtesy meeting with British MP Rupa Haque at the State Guest House Jamuna on Saturday.
Addressing concerns about past elections, Dr. Yunus said, “People were unable to exercise their voting rights in the last three elections. Those elections resulted in a fake parliament, MPs, and speakers. The people's voice was forcibly suppressed. Now, the countrymen have regained their voice.”
During the meeting, British MP Rupa Haque sought information regarding the potential election date, ongoing reform initiatives, and the process for ensuring the participation of all political parties.
In response, Dr. Yunus stated, “The next election is tentatively set for December 2025 or mid-2026. However, the final date will depend on the extent of reforms demanded by the people.”
Expressing her views, MP Rupa Haque said, “I am truly inspired by what I have seen in Bangladesh. I look forward to returning to observe the upcoming elections.”
The meeting underscores growing international interest in Bangladesh's electoral process as the country works towards ensuring democratic accountability and fairness.
