Dhaka, Jan 09 (V7N) — The Ministry of Hajj and Umrah has mandated a minimum quota of 1,000 pilgrims for each Hajj agency in Bangladesh, a limit that will not be reduced, according to Religious Affairs Advisor Dr. AFM Khalid Hossain.

At a press conference held at the Secretariat on Thursday afternoon, Dr. Hossain explained that this decision, taken by the Saudi government, aims to ensure greater transparency in Hajj management. He noted that smaller agencies can collaborate to form a lead agency to meet the required quota and manage Hajj-related activities efficiently.

However, the advisor acknowledged concerns from the Saudi government over delays in completing the overall Hajj process, including the rental of accommodation for pilgrims.

Addressing the shortfall in registrations, Dr. Hossain stated that this year's Hajj quota of 127,198 pilgrims remains unmet, with only 87,100 individuals registered. Among these, 5,200 will travel under government arrangements, while 81,900 will go under private management. He emphasised that the shortfall does not reflect a failure on the part of the government.

This development comes as efforts are being intensified to streamline Hajj management and ensure the smooth participation of Bangladeshi pilgrims in this year's pilgrimage.
