Petrapole, Jan 09 (V7N) — The Indian Border Security Force (BSF) and the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) held a meeting today in Petrapole, North 24 Parganas district, to discuss and resolve ongoing tensions along the Bangladesh-India border.
The meeting, lasting approximately two hours, was attended by BSF's South Bengal Frontier Inspector General (IG) Maninder Singh Pawar and high-ranking officials from the BGB. The discussions focused on recent incidents that have caused unease on both sides of the border.
“This is a regular meeting, held at the request of the BGB. Various bilateral issues were discussed, and the BSF remains committed to ensuring there are no problems on the border,” said IG Maninder Singh Pawar after the meeting.
For the past few days, tensions have been escalating at several border points due to the BSF’s construction of barbed wire fencing. The situation has sparked anger among local communities in both countries.
On January 5, the BSF's Sabdelpur Camp initiated soil excavation to construct a barbed wire fence near Chauka Math, about 100 yards inside Indian territory from border pillar 177/2-S. The BGB patrol team at Chauka BOP intervened and halted the activity through a flag meeting.
Despite this, the BSF resumed construction on January 7, leading to another interruption by the BGB. Additional manpower and local assistance were later deployed by the BSF to continue the project.
Both forces expressed their commitment to maintaining peace and resolving disputes amicably. The meeting today aimed to de-escalate tensions and foster better cooperation between the two countries.
Efforts to address these issues will continue, ensuring that both sides work towards maintaining stability along the border.
