Dhaka, Jan 19 (V7N) — Home Affairs Advisor Lieutenant General (retd) Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury emphasized the government’s commitment to protecting the country’s borders and tackling corruption during a certificate distribution ceremony for BCS and Judicial Service officials on Sunday morning.

“The previous government avoided addressing border issues, which is why there was no tension. However, the current government is making no concessions, leading to increased discussions,” he remarked.

The advisor assured that the borders would be safeguarded at all costs, stating that while earlier concessions were made to neighbouring India, the current administration is actively securing what is legally owed to Bangladesh. He also announced an upcoming Director General-level meeting to discuss border issues and seek resolutions.

Addressing other national challenges, the Home Affairs Advisor highlighted corruption as a significant problem and reaffirmed the government’s zero-tolerance policy toward it. He also expressed concerns about the increasing complications related to land, noting that the shrinking agricultural land due to various disputes underscores the need for a comprehensive Land Protection Act.

The event underlined the government’s commitment to addressing critical issues for national development and security.
