Tangail Deputy Commissioner Sharifa Haque inaugurates the symbolic marathon by releasing balloons at the DC office, accompanied by Additional Deputy Commissioner Abdullah Al Mamun and other officials.
Tangail, July 18 (V7N) – To commemorate July Uprising Day, the Tangail district administration organized a symbolic marathon on Friday morning, drawing participation from over 500 runners, including local officials, freedom fighters, family members of martyrs, and general citizens.
The event was inaugurated at 7:15 a.m. by Tangail Deputy Commissioner Sharifa Haque, who released balloons in front of the DC office to mark the start of the marathon. Present at the opening ceremony were Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Abdullah Al Mamun, Additional District Magistrate Mahbub Hasan, Sadar Upazila Executive Officer Nahida Akhter, Tangail Press Club President Zafar Ahmed, and Tangail Club General Secretary Harun-or-Rashid, among others.
As dawn broke, participants from various areas began assembling in front of the DC office. After registration, the symbolic marathon was flagged off, covering approximately five kilometers through key city routes including Battala, Niralamor, Shantikunjo Mor, Baby Stand, and Kagmari. The run concluded on the campus of Mawlana Bhashani Science and Technology University.
Participants included activists involved in the July movement, members of martyr families, as well as government and non-government employees. The event was held to honor the spirit of the historical July mass uprising and to promote unity, patriotism, and public participation in civic initiatives.
The symbolic marathon is one of several programs initiated by the district administration to reflect on the democratic and social significance of the July Uprising, a pivotal moment in the nation's political history.
