Sylhet, July 18 (V7N) – A concerned citizen from Sylhet has formally lodged a written complaint against Md. Omar Faruq, a Computer Operations Instructor at the Sylhet Government Technical Training Centre (TTC), accusing him of holding on to his post unlawfully for the past 18 years, along with allegations of corruption, abuse of authority, and misconduct.
The complaint was filed on July 9, 2025, by Tofayel Ahmed, an organizer of the Sylhet Citizens’ Rights Council, with the Divisional Commissioner of Sylhet. Prior to this, he submitted a similar complaint to the Deputy Commissioner of Sylhet on June 22, 2025.
According to the complaint, Md. Omar Faruq has been serving at the Sylhet TTC since November 17, 2008, without any meaningful transfer, allegedly using political influence and bureaucratic collusion to remain in the same post. Despite a formal transfer order issued in 2022, he reportedly managed to retain his position by bribing certain officials within the Bureau of Manpower, Employment, and Training (BMET).
The complaint further alleges that Omar Faruq has benefited from the protection and recommendations of influential local political leaders, including MPs and ministers from the previous Awami League government, treating the institution as his personal domain. It is also alleged that he, in collaboration with the current Principal Sheikh Mohammad Nahid Niaz, maintains a strong grip over administrative and operational matters, forming a powerful syndicate within the TTC.
Faruq is further accused of regularly engaging in misconduct, including mistreatment of local Sylheti citizens, mocking the Sylheti dialect, and making derogatory remarks about male and female trainees, including foreigners. The complainant claims that anyone—whether a teacher, student, or staff member—who questions their authority faces retaliation, often in the form of punitive administrative actions.
Additionally, the report alleges Faruq’s involvement in business dealings with an Indian trader over the past 18 years, particularly in the local stone trade, allegedly operating with a corrupt syndicate in the region.
The Sylhet TTC, a public vocational institution, has reportedly suffered under such prolonged misuse of administrative privilege, undermining its integrity and mission to serve the local unemployed youth with skills-based training.
The complainant has urged higher authorities to intervene, conduct an impartial investigation, and take corrective action to restore transparency and accountability at the institution.
No official comment has yet been issued by the TTC authorities regarding the allegations.
