Dhaka, Nov 16 (V7N) – Australian lawmakers have expressed concern over the safety of candidates contesting the upcoming 13th National Parliamentary Election in Bangladesh, urging the interim government to ensure enhanced security measures, including for BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman. In response, Tarique Rahman conveyed his gratitude in a post on his verified Facebook page on Saturday.
In his statement, Tarique said he, along with many Bangladeshis, sincerely appreciates the Australian parliamentarians who have spoken with clarity and conscience on democracy, human rights, and electoral integrity in Bangladesh. He noted that their thoughtful intervention reflects a strong commitment to universal democratic principles and the welfare of the Bangladeshi people.
Tarique stated that citizens across Bangladesh are expressing growing concerns about political uncertainty, personal security, and the need for a free and fair electoral process. These concerns, he said, come from ordinary people who desire stability, justice, and the right to choose their future through a peaceful and credible democratic system.
He added that the call by Australian lawmakers to ensure the safety, dignity, and political rights of all election participants resonates deeply with the aspirations of Bangladesh’s citizens. He emphasized that democracy thrives when elections are inclusive, transparent, and free from violence.
Tarique also acknowledged the role of the Bangladeshi diaspora in Australia, saying they have played a significant part in conveying these concerns with sincerity. Their contributions to Australian society and their continued connection to Bangladesh, he said, have helped strengthen the partnership between the two countries. Their advocacy, rooted in love for their homeland, allows the world to better understand the challenges and hopes of Bangladeshis.
He further noted that Australia and Bangladesh share a foundation of mutual respect and cooperation. Tarique expressed gratitude to the Australian representatives who have shown solidarity with the people of Bangladesh, saying their support is a reminder of the global commitment to democracy. When nations stand together, he added, they encourage peace, justice, and progress.
The post concluded with a photo card shared by the BNP Acting Chairman.
