Dhaka, Jan 23 (V7N) — Sarjis Alam, a key coordinator of the anti-discrimination student movement and principal organiser of the National Citizens Committee, has filed a cyberbullying case against two Facebook pages for alleged defamation and spreading false information.

The case was lodged at Shahbagh Police Station on Thursday, as confirmed by Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Khalid Mansur. The accused pages, Department of Bakshal, University of Dhaka and Criminals DU, are alleged to have posted defamatory content involving manipulated screenshots and false claims targeting Sarjis Alam.

According to the complaint, Sarjis discovered the posts on Wednesday morning. The pages reportedly shared edited screenshots from an unused WhatsApp account falsely attributed to him. These posts included defamatory allegations and misleading claims, such as his alleged resignation and expulsion from the July Memorial Foundation, which he denies.

The case report also highlights that Nafisa Islam Saqafi, a co-coordinator of the anti-discrimination movement, was similarly targeted. She faced cyberbullying for her vocal criticism of the July Memorial Foundation.

Sarjis stated that the posts included derogatory comments, doctored photos, and false accusations, which have severely damaged his reputation and caused significant social humiliation. "This baseless propaganda has caused irreparable harm to my personality and character," he said in his statement.

The Shahbagh police are currently investigating the matter. The incident underscores the growing issue of cyberbullying and the misuse of social media platforms to spread misinformation and target individuals.
