Dhaka, Aug 10 (V7N) – The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has issued a warning regarding false information circulating on social media about filing a so-called “zero return” under the Income Tax Act, 2023.
In a press release this morning, the NBR clarified that there is no provision for filing a “zero return” in the current tax law. Taxpayers are required to accurately report their actual income, expenses, assets, and liabilities in their tax returns.
The NBR condemned the spread of misinformation claiming that taxpayers can submit returns with all fields marked as zero, labeling such actions as illegal and punishable offenses.
The board further explained that if a taxpayer’s income is not taxable under the law, no tax payment is necessary. However, submitting a return with false or zero declarations without reflecting the true financial situation violates the law.
Taxpayers are urged to file their returns truthfully and avoid falling victim to misleading social media posts.
