JHALAKATHI, Mar 16, (V7N) — Police in Kathalia upazila have arrested Riazul Haque (40), the prime suspect in a motorcycle theft case, and produced him before court on Monday evening.

The arrest was made in the Center Hat area of Sauljalia Union. Riazul Haque, son of Abul Hossain of Dakshin Shauljalia village, had been named as the lead accused in a case filed last month.

According to case records, the dispute stems from a family conflict with Syed Enamul Haque and UP member Syed Abdul Qayyum of West Shauljalia village. On January 22, Enamul Haque was traveling to Dhaka on Qayyum’s motorcycle when Riazul allegedly blocked his path, assaulted him, and took both cash and the motorcycle.

Following the incident, Rabeya Akhter, wife of UP member Qayyum, filed a case with Kathalia Police Station on February 9, naming Riazul and six others as accused.

Haran Chandra Pal, Officer‑in‑Charge (Investigation) of Kathalia Police Station, confirmed the arrest. “The main accused in the case, Riazul Haque, has been arrested and produced before the court. Vigorous efforts are underway to arrest the remaining accused,” he said.

Local residents noted that the arrest has brought relief to the community, which had been concerned about rising thefts in the area.
