Ramganj, Jan 25 (V7N) — Stating that the people of Bangladesh no longer need to obey anyone, Interim Government Advisor Mahfuz Alam urged citizens to move forward with the spirit of those martyred and injured on July 24. He made these remarks during a reception at the Government College premises in Ramganj Upazila on Saturday evening.

In his speech, Mahfuz Alam said, "The students and the public who sacrificed their lives on July 24 have given us new inspiration. We must move forward with their spirit. If the Awami League tries to seek refuge in Delhi's lap again, we will resist. We are ready to choose the path of martyrdom following the path of our martyrs."

He emphasised that overthrowing the Awami League regime is not enough. "We must dismantle the remnants of fascism that persist in the administration, education, and cultural sectors. These elements must be brought to justice to fulfil the aspirations of the martyrs," he stated.

Alam also highlighted the necessity of reforms before holding elections. "Many commissions have prepared reform proposals. Elections will only take place after implementing these reforms through a consensus with political parties. We cannot proceed with elections while retaining the institutions that sustained Sheikh Hasina's regime," he said.

Referring to the atrocities committed under the previous government, he added, "Our mothers and sisters were subjected to disappearances, murders, and rapes. Children were made to disappear. Political activists, including those from BNP and Jamaat, faced brutal attacks, injuries, and imprisonment. These institutions and brokers must be overthrown, and the perpetrators must be prosecuted before we move toward elections."

Mahfuz Alam called on all political parties to unite as anti-fascist forces and cooperate with the interim government to implement the necessary reforms. "We will not bow to anyone anymore," he declared.

The event was attended by leaders from various professional organisations, including the District Coordinator of the July Revolution, Jamaat-e-Islami, Islamic Movement, and Hefazat-e-Islam. Following his speech, Mahfuz Alam exchanged views with the families of martyrs and the injured and distributed blankets among the needy.
