Dhaka, Jan 26 (V7N)— Dr. Muhammad Yunus, the Chief Advisor to Bangladesh's interim government, has expressed his gratitude to US President Donald Trump for continuing assistance to Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh.
The announcement was made during a briefing by the Chief Advisor's press wing at the Foreign Service Academy in Dhaka on Sunday evening. Apurba Jahangir, Deputy Press Secretary to the Chief Advisor, shared that despite President Trump's executive order suspending foreign aid for 90 days, funding for the Rohingya nutrition and food assistance program has been exempted from the suspension.
"The Chief Advisor thanked President Trump for this decision, ensuring that the critical aid for the Rohingya refugees will remain uninterrupted," Jahangir said.
The US Embassy conveyed this assurance during a meeting with Dr. Khalilur Rahman, the High Representative for the Rohingya Issue and Priority Issues. Shafiqul Alam, the Press Secretary to the Chief Advisor, highlighted the significant role of USAID in supporting the Rohingya.
"Over the past seven years, the United States has provided more than $2 billion in aid for the Rohingya, the majority of whom have sought refuge in Bangladesh. This continued support underscores the US's commitment to humanitarian assistance," Alam stated.
The announcement brings reassurance as Bangladesh continues to host over a million Rohingya refugees, with international aid being a critical lifeline for their sustenance and well-being.
