Dhaka, Mar 11 (V7N) – The National Sadaqatul Fitra Determination Committee has announced the minimum and maximum Fitra rates for the year 1446 Hijri in Bangladesh. This year, the minimum Fitra has been set at 110 taka per person, while the maximum is 2,805 taka. In comparison, last year the rates were 115 taka and 2,970 taka, respectively.
The decision was made during a meeting held today at the Islamic Foundation meeting room at Baitul Mukarram National Mosque in the capital. The committee emphasized that according to Islamic Sharia, Muslims are encouraged to distribute Fitra—traditionally in the form of wheat, flour, barley, dates, raisins, or cheese—or its equivalent market price to the poor, based on their ability.
The meeting also noted that the moon of Ramadan was sighted on March 1, marking the beginning of fasting. Eid-ul-Fitr, the biggest religious festival for Muslims, is expected to be celebrated in Bangladesh on March 31 or April 1, depending on the moon sighting.
