Dhaka, June 7 (V7N) — The rate of coronavirus (COVID-19) infection is once again increasing in Bangladesh, prompting the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare to urge the public to resume health precautions, including the use of masks in crowded areas.

A notification issued on Friday (June 6) by Md. Mamun Or Rashid, Public Relations Officer of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, conveyed the renewed warning. It emphasized that in light of the rise in COVID-19 cases, everyone should wear masks in public gatherings, particularly to protect vulnerable groups.

The ministry has specifically advised elderly individuals and those with pre-existing health conditions to avoid crowded areas altogether, as a precautionary measure.

The alert follows the detection of new COVID-19 cases in various districts across the country, reigniting public concern. On Thursday (June 5), the country recorded one death due to COVID-19, along with three newly detected cases.

Bangladesh reported its first COVID-19 cases on March 8, 2020. The first death followed on March 18 of the same year. The virus reached its deadliest point in the country on August 5 and 10, 2021, when 264 deaths were recorded on each of those days.

Health authorities have urged citizens to remain cautious and cooperate with public health guidelines to prevent further spread of the virus.
