Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina reaffirmed on Thursday that the international recognition of Bangabandhu's historic March 7 speech stands as testament to the resilience of history against attempts to erase it by anti-liberation forces.

Addressing a program commemorating the significance of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's iconic March 7 speech, Prime Minister Hasina emphasized that history cannot be erased nor the truth obscured by falsehood. She highlighted the global recognition garnered by Bangabandhu's historic address, asserting its importance not only for Bangladesh but also as one of the greatest speeches by world leaders inspiring independence movements worldwide.

Reflecting on the suppression faced by the pro-liberation forces, she lamented attempts to eradicate Bangabandhu's legacy, including banning his name and image, as well as the iconic March 7 speech and the "Joy Bangla" slogan. Recalling the brutal assassination of her father and Bangabandhu's efforts to transform Bangladesh from a war-torn nation into a developing country within a short period, she condemned the anti-liberation forces' opposition to Bangladesh's progress.

Prime Minister Hasina expressed sorrow over the fact that Bangabandhu's life was taken not by foreign invaders but by some compatriots, highlighting the tragic loss of numerous family members and associates in the same incident. She emphasized the stagnation Bangladesh faced following the massacre, noting the lack of socio-economic advancement and the unchanged fate of its people.

The program, organized by the Ministry of Cultural Affairs, featured Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque, Education Minister Mohibul Hassan Chowdhury, PM's Advisor Kamal Abdul Naser, and Cabinet Secretary Md Mahbub Hossain among other dignitaries. The event included the iconic playback of Bangabandhu's March 7 speech followed by a cultural performance witnessed by the Prime Minister.
