Dhaka, Sept 7 (V7N) – Chief Adviser Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus on Sunday instructed law enforcement agencies to extend full cooperation to the Dhaka University administration in ensuring a peaceful and festive environment during the upcoming Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) election.
The directive came during a high-level meeting at the state guesthouse Jamuna, chaired by the Chief Adviser. Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam told reporters that Dr. Yunus emphasized the importance of holding the DUCSU polls in a democratic spirit. “The election must take place in a peaceful and festive manner, and for that, the university administration has to be given full support,” he said.
The Chief Adviser also cautioned against forces seeking to destabilize the nation. He noted that defeated fascist elements, angered by the country’s progress toward elections and the expedited trials of those involved in the July massacre, were becoming increasingly desperate. “This is not merely a law-and-order issue; it is a matter of national security. They are mobilizing all resources to disrupt peace and obstruct the democratic process,” he said.
Alam stated that the meeting decided no leniency would be shown to those attempting to create chaos. The government considers unity among political parties, alongside the people, to be essential for safeguarding national interests.
Turning to the upcoming Durga Puja celebrations, Dr. Yunus expressed concerns about possible attempts to incite unrest. “Last year’s Puja celebrations were marked by a positive experience in maintaining law and order. This year, all necessary security measures must be taken in advance to prevent any form of disorder,” he stressed.
The briefing also revealed that to strengthen communal harmony, the Ministry of Religious Affairs has been directed to hold meetings with faith-based organizations across the country. The Religious Affairs Adviser will soon convene these meetings. In addition, the Chief Adviser instructed continuous monitoring of the law-and-order situation, improved coordination among security forces, and greater vigilance by local administrations.
The meeting further called for reinforcing the political unity that emerged after the July killings, ensuring stronger relations among political parties, and preventing any untoward incidents during the election period. Special instructions were issued to monitor sudden protest marches and unauthorized gatherings, with a clear order to take strict legal action against those actively involved in such activities.
