Dhaka, Jan 05 (V7N) — Brent Christensen, the newly confirmed United States Ambassador to Bangladesh, is scheduled to arrive in Dhaka on January 12, according to a reliable source at the US Embassy. His arrival is being viewed as a key diplomatic development in light of the country’s current political situation and the upcoming national elections.

Sources indicate that Ambassador-designate Christensen will have a busy schedule, engaging with all major political parties and participating in discussions on various national issues.

President Donald Trump nominated Christensen as US Ambassador to Bangladesh in September, and the US Senate confirmed his appointment in December. Following the confirmation, Christensen expressed his gratitude on LinkedIn, stating, “I am honored to be confirmed by the Senate as the next Ambassador to Bangladesh and deeply thankful to President Trump for this opportunity.”

Diplomatic analysts note that amid political uncertainty and forthcoming elections, US engagement in Bangladesh is essential. During his Senate confirmation hearings, Christensen emphasized supporting Bangladesh’s democratic processes, human rights, the Rohingya crisis, and economic cooperation. He stated, “The United States will support Bangladesh’s democratic future and strengthen relations by reducing trade barriers.”

Christensen is a senior Foreign Service officer and a member of the Senior Foreign Service Counselor rank. He previously served at the US Embassy in Dhaka as Political and Economic Counselor from 2019 to 2021. From 2022 to 2025, he was Foreign Policy Advisor at the US Strategic Command. His other postings include Manila, San Salvador, Riyadh, and Ho Chi Minh City. Christensen holds a Master’s degree in National Security Strategy from the National War College.

The US Ambassador’s post in Dhaka had been vacant since Peter Haas departed in July last year. Tracy Ann Jacobson has been serving as Charge d’Affaires since then.
