Dhaka, Dec 29 (V7N) — Independent candidate for Dhaka-9 constituency Dr. Tasnim Zara has called for ensuring a level playing field for both party-backed and independent candidates, saying that such an environment is currently absent in the country’s political landscape.
She made the remarks on Monday (December 29) morning while collecting public signatures in Khilgaon to meet the eligibility requirements for candidacy in the upcoming national election.
Dr. Tasnim Zara said she is committed to practicing a new style of politics and will continue her political activities regardless of electoral outcomes. She clarified that she is contesting as an independent candidate and has no intention of joining any political party.
“I do not believe that politics ends by being an independent,” she said, adding that meaningful political engagement goes beyond party affiliation.
Addressing security concerns, Dr. Tasnim Zara acknowledged apprehensions surrounding the election environment but expressed hope that a safe, fair, and acceptable election would be ensured for all candidates—both independent and party-backed.
She also criticized the requirement of 1 percent voter support as a condition for independent candidates, describing it as a barrier that undermines equal participation in the electoral process.
Dr. Tasnim Zara urged the authorities to take effective steps to create a fair electoral atmosphere so that voters can freely choose their representatives.
