DHAKA, Feb 17, (V7N) – Former Home Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd) Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has credited all involved parties for the successful conduct of a free, transparent, and credible 13th parliamentary election.“The credit for holding the 13th parliamentary election fairly goes to everyone, including the Home Ministry, law enforcement agencies, and officials involved in the electoral process,” he said.Chowdhury made these remarks as the chief guest at a farewell reception organized by the Ministry of Home Affairs at the Bangladesh Secretariat today.Describing the election as the “most fair, acceptable, and festive” in the country’s history, he recalled that during a recent special cabinet meeting, the Chief Adviser highly praised the Ministry of Home Affairs and law enforcement agencies for their role in ensuring a peaceful electoral environment.
“I am proud to have contributed to delivering a free, fair, and impartial election,” he added, emphasizing that after the Election Commission, the Ministry of Home Affairs bore the greatest responsibility in conducting the national polls.Expressing deep gratitude to the ministry’s officials and employees, Chowdhury said he is now in the “fourth quarter” of his life and requested prayers to spend his remaining days in happiness and peace with his family.
Later, while briefing journalists, he thanked the media for their role during his one and a half years in office. He acknowledged that the media consistently highlighted the ministry’s activities and pointed out shortcomings, helping authorities make informed decisions.Calling the media the “fourth pillar” of the state, Chowdhury emphasized its integral role alongside the judiciary, executive, and legislature in ensuring accountability and transparency in society.He expressed hope that the media would continue to uphold this vital responsibility in the future.
