DHAKA, April 12 (V7N) – The Jatiya Sangsad (JS) has passed the Women and Children Repression Prevention (Amendment) Bill, 2026, with unanimous support through a voice vote on Friday. The bill, introduced by the State Minister for Women and Children Affairs, A Z M Zahid Hossain, seeks to amend the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act of 2000.
The primary goal of the amendment is to expedite the justice process for victims of violence, ensuring it is faster, more efficient, and more accountable. It introduces specific timeframes for investigation and trial, aiming to reduce delays that often prolong the suffering of victims.
Key features of the amendment include enhanced protection for victims, safeguarding their safety, privacy, and dignity. The law allows victims to participate in legal proceedings without fear of harassment or intimidation. Additionally, the amendment reinforces the "zero tolerance" policy toward violence and ensures strict accountability for offenders.
A significant focus of the amendment is the integration of digital evidence and technology-based investigations, which aims to bolster law enforcement capabilities and improve judicial processes.
With these changes, the amendment is expected to improve safety for women and children, bolster public trust in the justice system, and support Bangladesh's ongoing commitment to gender equality and human rights.
