SANGSAD BHABAN, April 22, (V7N) – Ruling party lawmakers in the Jatiya Sangsad have called for greater political unity to build a progressive nation, while criticizing the opposition’s aggressive behavior in Parliament.
During a discussion on a thanksgiving motion on the President’s speech, with Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmed Bir-Bikram in the chair, treasury bench members said that despite differing ideologies, all political leaders should work for the country’s greater good.
BNP lawmaker Mir Mohammad Helal Uddin (Chattogram-5) stated, “Parliament should be a platform for constructive debate, not destructive confrontation. Our common goal is to work jointly to uphold democracy.” He added that Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s government is promoting inclusive politics amid multiple challenges.
CHT Affairs Minister Dipen Dewan noted that the Prime Minister is striving for a discrimination-free country and that ministries have announced a 180-day program.
Criticizing the opposition, ruling party MP AKM Selim Reza Habib (Pabna-2) said, “We don’t know who benefits from this aggressive attitude.” He also remarked, “We are all doing politics for the people, but disunity made us suffer for 17 years.”
Another treasury member, Abdul Wadud Bhuiyan (Khagrachari), accused the opposition of conspiring outside Parliament, citing an attack on BNP’s student wing, Chatra Dal, by Shibir cadres in Chattogram. “This heinous attack is an attack on democracy,” he said.
While ruling party MPs praised the President’s speech, opposition members rejected it, calling the President an associate of the past “fascist” regime.
Several other lawmakers from both the treasury bench and Jamaat-e-Islami also participated in the discussion.
