Dhaka, April 25 (V7N) — Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has reaffirmed the government's commitment to fostering a modern and effective service system designed to recognize and protect the talents of researchers, innovators, and entrepreneurs. In a message issued ahead of "World Intellectual Property Day," which will be observed across Bangladesh tomorrow, the Prime Minister detailed several ongoing initiatives, including online registration systems, expedited services, and strengthened legal frameworks to combat counterfeit products. He emphasized that safeguarding intellectual property (IP) is a fundamental prerequisite for the country’s accelerated development and international competitiveness.

Focusing on this year’s theme, "IP and Sports: Ready, Set, Innovate," the Prime Minister described the focus as particularly timely for harnessing the intellectual potential of Bangladesh’s vibrant youth population. He noted that intellectual property plays an increasingly vital role in sports technology, athlete training, branding, and the digital broadcasting industry. By protecting these creative assets, the government aims to encourage new ideas that can drive growth in the startups and creative economy sectors, ensuring that the nation remains at the forefront of rapid advancements in information technology and industry.

The Prime Minister also highlighted the government's dedicated efforts to secure international recognition for traditional Bangladeshi products through Geographical Indication (GI) status. He specifically mentioned ongoing work to protect iconic items such as Jamdani and Hilsa, which he argued would significantly strengthen Bangladesh’s position in the global market. He underscored that such protections are essential for maintaining the cultural heritage of the nation while maximizing the economic benefits for local producers and artisans.

In his message, Tarique Rahman further elaborated on the evolution of sports from a form of entertainment into a professionalized economic sector. He pointed to new government initiatives, such as financial allowances and dedicated sports cards for national athletes, aimed at ensuring their social dignity and financial security. By expanding modern training facilities and identifying new talents nationwide, the government expects to create vast opportunities in sports-based industries, tourism, and employment, ultimately building a world-class sporting environment for the next generation.
