DHAKA, May 7, (V7N) – Prime Minister Tarique Rahman today instructed authorities to take urgent measures to support farmers affected by heavy rainfall in the haor region.
At a meeting held at his Cabinet Division office in the Bangladesh Secretariat this afternoon, the Prime Minister emphasized the need for an accurate and transparent list of affected farmers. Based on this list, financial assistance will be provided for three months, according to a press release from the Prime Minister’s Press Wing.
The meeting reviewed ongoing activities to deliver financial aid to haor farmers. It was decided that assistance would be disbursed as quickly as possible. Discussions also focused on adjusting paddy planting and harvesting schedules to minimize losses caused by rainfall.
Earlier, on April 29, the Prime Minister told the Jatiya Sangsad that the government would provide three months of support to farmers identified as affected by the heavy rains.
Disaster Management and Relief Minister Asadul Habib Dulu, Agriculture and Fisheries and Livestock Minister Mohammed Aminur Rashid, JS Deputy Speaker Barrister Kayser Kamal, State Minister for Textiles and Jute Md Shariful Alam, and several lawmakers from the haor region were present at the meeting.
