Dhaka, May 09 (V7N) — The body of Nahida Sultana Brishity, a Bangladeshi PhD student at the University of South Florida who was killed in a brutal incident in the United States, arrived in Bangladesh on Saturday (May 9).

The Emirates flight carrying her body landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at around 9:10 am. Asad Alam Siam, Foreign Secretary of Bangladesh, along with relatives of the deceased, were present at the airport.

Following arrival formalities, Brishit’s body was taken directly to her hometown in Madaripur, where she is scheduled to be buried in the family graveyard after funeral prayers following Asr prayers.

Brishit’s father, Zahir ul Islam, expressed deep grief over the tragedy.

“We never imagined waiting for this day. We had prepared to receive her alive when she was supposed to return home on July 17. But instead, we had to receive her body,” he said.

He described his daughter as highly ambitious and talented from childhood, saying she always dreamed of achieving something significant through education and service to society.

“She wanted to return to the country and work for ordinary people,” he added. “She also dreamed of inaugurating the house I built in the village based on her design. She earned her doctorate degree, but sadly it came posthumously.”

He also demanded the highest possible punishment for those responsible for the killing and urged people to pray for his daughter.

The flight carrying Brishit’s body departed from Orlando International Airport on Thursday (May 7) night local time.

Another Bangladeshi PhD student, Jamil Ahmed Limon, was also killed in the same incident. His body arrived in Dhaka on May 4.

The University of South Florida has posthumously awarded doctorate degrees to both Bangladeshi students.
