Kolkata, May 09 (V7N) — Subhendu Adhikari was sworn in as the new Chief Minister of West Bengal on Saturday (May 9), following the Bharatiya Janata Party’s landslide victory in the state assembly elections.
The oath-taking ceremony was held at the historic Brigade Parade Ground in Kolkata, where Narendra Modi congratulated the newly elected chief minister after the ceremony.
Governor R. N. Ravi administered the oath to Subhendu Adhikari.
Several BJP leaders also took oath as ministers in the new cabinet, including Dilip Ghosh, Agnimitra Pal, Ashok Kirtania, Nishith Pramanik and Khudiram Tudu.
Before the oath-taking ceremony, Prime Minister Modi paid tribute to Rabindranath Tagore by offering flowers. He also paid respects to senior BJP leader Makhanlal Sarkar.
According to the election results, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) secured 207 seats in the 294-member West Bengal Assembly, ending the 15-year rule of the All India Trinamool Congress.
The ceremony was attended by several senior national leaders, including Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh and BJP national president Nitin Naveen.
Chief ministers from several Indian states were also present, including Himanta Biswa Sarma of Assam, Yogi Adityanath of Uttar Pradesh, and N. Chandrababu Naidu of Andhra Pradesh, along with leaders from around 20 other states.
