Dhaka, May 12 (V7N) — Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury has said that there will be no interference from the government or political parties in the country’s economy.
He made the remarks on Tuesday (May 12) while speaking at the launch ceremony of the Bangladesh Startup Investment Company.
The Finance Minister acknowledged that the country is currently passing through a difficult period but expressed optimism that the situation would improve soon.
“We have decided to reduce political interference in the economic sector,” he said.
Mostakur Rahman, Governor of Bangladesh Bank, was also present at the event. He announced that after June 30, payments would no longer be possible without the Bangla QR code system.
The governor expressed hope that the newly launched startup investment company would play an important role in financing the younger generation and encouraged the selection of projects capable of strengthening the rural economy.
Company Chairman Masrur Arefin said that many talented entrepreneurs leave the country every year due to a lack of financing opportunities. He added that the company aims to support local entrepreneurs, particularly through technology-based SME financing.
The venture capital platform has been launched under the management of 49 commercial banks with a committed capital of Tk 425 crore. According to officials, participating banks will contribute one percent of their net profits to the fund annually.
It was also noted at the event that since 2010, Bangladesh’s startup sector has signed more than 450 investment agreements worth over US$1 billion, though less than seven percent of that financing has come from domestic sources.
