Sheikh Hasina, the leader of the Awami League, has received congratulations from Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah of Brunei for holding the position of prime minister for a record five times.

The Sultan stated in a letter, "I extend my warmest congratulations on your re-appointment as Prime Minister of the People's Republic of Bangladesh."

Under her direction, he claimed, Bangladesh had achieved "great strides in development and poverty reduction." "I wish you much success in your new term in office and I am confident that you will continue to lead Bangladesh towards many more achievements in the coming years," he wrote in a letter.

The Sultan expressed his happiness that after 40 years of diplomatic relations, Brunei Darussalam and Bangladesh still have cordial and strong ties. He said, "I look forward to renewed opportunities to further develop these important ties, both bilaterally and regionally for the mutual benefit of our countries and people."

President Shahabuddin swore in Awami League leader Sheikh Hasina as Bangladesh's prime minister for a fourth term in a row on Thursday, January 11.

In the election on January 7, Sheikh Hasina's party secured a two-thirds majority, giving them a resounding mandate to establish the government for a fourth term in a row.
