MYMENSINGH, MAY 23 (V7N) - Prime Minister and BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman urged the nation to remain highly alert, warning that vested quarters are actively conspiring to create an anarchic situation in the country. The premier emphasized that any breakdown in law and order at this critical juncture would directly obstruct ongoing national development activities and put ordinary citizens in harm's way.
He made these remarks on Saturday while addressing a massive gathering of local villagers, administrative officials, and party activists after formally inaugurating the re-excavation work of the ‘Dharar Khal’ (Dhara Canal) in the Bailor area of Trishal, Mymensingh.
The Prime Minister explicitly addressed the recent public outrage surrounding the tragic murder of eight-year-old schoolgirl Ramisa in the capital's Pallabi area. While reaffirming his government's absolute commitment to ensuring maximum punishment for the perpetrators, he strongly condemned the exploitation of the tragedy to incite public unrest:
Obstruction of Justice: The premier noted that certain quarters are using the incident to block major highways, halt transport networks, set fires, and orchestrate street violence. He warned that these actions actively hinder the rule of law rather than supporting it.
Political Hypocrisy: Rahman highlighted a stark contrast in the behavior of current agitators. He recalled that during the previous interim government's tenure, when similar tragic injustices occurred, his party actively provided medical and legal aid to victims' families, while the groups currently blocking roads were completely absent from the field.
Conspiratorial Links: He questioned whether certain quarters, frustrated by the public mandate given to the BNP in the February 12 democratic elections, are conspiring with the authoritarian forces ousted by the student-led mass uprising on August 5. He compared the current destabilization tactics to political disruptions witnessed historically in 1986 and 1996.
Shifting the focus to national economic recovery and self-reliance, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman outlined his administration's vision for transformative grassroots growth, centered heavily on agricultural infrastructure and total labor mobilization.
Inauguration and Plaque Unveiling:Trishal, Mymensingh.
The Prime Minister formally unveiled the official commemorative plaque at the 'Dharar Khal' project site to launch the regional water-management scheme.
Initiating Canal Re-Excavation:
Signaling a hands-on approach to rural development, the premier joined local laborers on the canal bank, symbolically cutting the first soil with a spade.
Environmental Infrastructure Support:
To promote ecological conservation and protect the newly excavated banks from erosion, the Prime Minister planted a palm tree sapling along the canal boundary.
Activating the National Labor Force:
The premier issued a nationwide call to systematically engage the "40 crore hands of Bangladesh's 20 crore population" in localized agricultural, infrastructural, and public works projects to ensure self-sufficiency.
"The people are the true owners of this country. We will no longer allow a handful of conspirators to spread confusion, disrupt justice, and play games with the fate of the common citizens. We must look after our own home, defend our sovereignty, and protect our people's interests."
— Prime Minister Tarique Rahman
The grassroots development rally was chaired by the local Member of Parliament, Mahbubur Rahman Liton. Among the primary guest speakers was Disaster Management and Relief Minister Asadul Habib Dulu, alongside central and regional BNP leaders who pledged total organizational support to protect rural infrastructure projects and maintain community safety lines across the division.
