MYMENSINGH, May 23, (V7N): Prime Minister Tarique Rahman today announced that the maximum punishment—the death penalty—for the killer of eight-year-old Ramisa will be ensured within the next one month. The premier made the declaration this afternoon while inaugurating a three-day national gala program marking the 127th birth anniversary of National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam at the Nazrul Mancha in Trishal, Mymensingh.

Addressing the assembly, the Prime Minister stated that the tragic murder of the innocent girl in Dhaka's Mirpur area stands as a stark proof of the complete moral degradation of human values. He emphasized that the greatest damage inflicted upon the nation during the tenure of the ousted regime was the systemic destruction of humanity, compassion, and long-standing religious and social values. He firmly asserted that the current administration will maintain an absolute zero-tolerance policy toward any form of child abuse or violence against women.

The premier added that a swift execution of the maximum penalty is essential to set a legal precedent so that no one dares to perpetrate such heinous crimes against women and children in the future. To establish a truly safe and humane state, he called for a collective effort to uphold the rule of law, reform the existing political culture, and actively revive foundational cultural values in national life—a mission where the rebellious and humanist philosophy of Kazi Nazrul Islam remains deeply relevant.

Following the brutal murder, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman personally visited Ramisa’s family residence at Pallabi in Dhaka on Thursday night to console her grieving father and elder sister, promising a speedy trial. Accompanying the Prime Minister at the Mymensingh event, Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed later informed journalists that law enforcement agencies are moving at an accelerated pace, confirming that the formal charge sheet for the Ramisa murder case will be submitted to the court by Sunday afternoon.

The three-day national anniversary program, organized by the Ministry of Cultural Affairs, kicked off at the Nazrul Academy ground in Darirampur, Trishal—a site deeply associated with the national poet’s childhood memories. The inaugural function was presided over by Cultural Affairs Minister Nitai Roy Chowdhury, alongside several high-level speakers including State Minister for Cultural Affairs Ali Newaz Mahmood Khyom, State Minister for Jute and Textiles Md Shariful Alam, and local lawmaker Mahbubur Rahman Liton.

Other notable dignitaries addressing the commemoration included Cultural Affairs Secretary Kaniz Moula, Mymensingh Zila Parishad Administrator Syed Emran Saleh Prince, Kabi Nazrul Institute Executive Director Md Latiful Islam Shibli, the poet's granddaughter Khilkhil Kazi, Dhaka University Professor Tarikh Monjur, and Mymensingh Deputy Commissioner Md. Saifur Rahman.
