DHAKA, May 24, (V7N) - Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has described Kazi Nazrul Islam as an unforgettable titan of national history, comparing his sudden emergence during a dark era of subjugation and systemic oppression to a guiding lighthouse for a dying nation.
In a high-profile message issued on the eve of the National Poet's 127th birth anniversary, being celebrated across the country tomorrow, the Prime Minister paid rich tribute to the poet's ever-glorious memory. He expressed endless national gratitude for the poet's legacy and prayed for the eternal peace of his departed soul.
"The entire life of Kazi Nazrul Islam was a unique and extraordinary rebellion—a declaration of war against colonial rule, subjugation, exploitation, inequality, religious fanaticism, communalism, and all forms of ugliness and tyranny," the Prime Minister stated. He highlighted that no other figure in the region's history fashioned words quite as artistically powerful to champion humanity, freedom, gender liberation, and an exploitation-free society.
The Premier reminded the nation that Nazrul was the first poet, journalist, and political visionary to demand absolute independence for the subcontinent from British colonial rule. He lauded the poet's radial commitment to humanity, which transcended boundaries of nation, religion, race, or tribe.
"Nazrul is our foremost guide in patriotism," the Prime Minister added. "Our hopes, struggles, literature, and cultural heritage have all come alive with majestic beauty through his writings. In the ongoing fight against injustice, his poetry and music remain our greatest structural inspiration."
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman emphasized that the rebel poet's necessity remains timeless, pointing out that Nazrul's fiery compositions served as a major source of profound inspiration during both the 1971 Liberation War and the recent July mass uprising. Whenever the nation has risen against tyranny, Nazrul's creative output has become the primary language of protest and resistance.
The Premier concluded his message by calling Nazrul the standard-bearer of the national renaissance and a spiritual companion to the poor, deprived, and oppressed people worldwide. "On the birthday of our National Poet, let us take a collective pledge to erase the shame of injustice, poverty, and division. Let us place Bangladesh above all else, protect our hard-won independence, and dedicate ourselves to building a happy, prosperous, and truly democratic motherland.".
