Dhaka, Jun 07 (V7N) – The father of child Ramisa Akhter has expressed full satisfaction after a Dhaka court sentenced the main accused Sohel Rana and his wife Swapna Khatun to death in the rape and murder case of his daughter.

Speaking to journalists at the court premises on Sunday, shortly after the verdict, he said he was relieved by the judgment and hoped it would be implemented without delay.

“Alhamdulillah, I am 100 percent happy. If this verdict is implemented, my expectations will be fully fulfilled,” he said.

He further expressed gratitude to all those who supported his family throughout the legal process.

“I have received the desired verdict. I am grateful to the judges, police, administration, journalists and the people of Bangladesh who stood by us in times of danger and supported us mentally,” he added.

The grieving father also called for swift execution of the death sentence, saying he wanted justice for his daughter to be carried out as soon as possible.

Earlier on Sunday, Judge Masrur Salekin of the Dhaka Metropolitan Child Violence Prevention Tribunal sentenced Sohel Rana and his wife Swapna Khatun to death in the widely discussed rape and murder case.

The court also fined Sohel Rana Tk 500,000 and his wife Tk 200,000.

The verdict brought an end to a fast-tracked trial that had drawn nationwide attention and public outrage following the killing of eight-year-old Ramisa Akhter in the capital’s Pallabi area.
