Dhaka, Jun 07 (V7N) – Attorney General Ruhul Quddus Kajal has said that the Attorney General’s Office will take immediate steps to expedite the appeal process following the verdict in the rape and murder case of child Ramisa in Pallabi, Dhaka.

Speaking to journalists shortly after the verdict on Sunday, the Attorney General said the state’s primary responsibility is to ensure exemplary punishment in serious criminal cases and that people want to see justice fully implemented.

“The state’s responsibility is to ensure exemplary punishment in any case. People want to see the verdict implemented. We want to change the fear among people that the verdict is not implemented,” he said.

He described the verdict as a milestone in the country’s judicial process, noting that the trial was concluded in a shorter time frame compared to other similar high-profile cases.

According to him, the investigation report was submitted on time by the investigating officer, which helped avoid unnecessary delays in the trial process.

He also said that once the necessary documents, including the death reference and paper book, are received from the trial court, the appeal process in the High Court Division will begin without delay.

The Attorney General further claimed that Ramisa’s father had expressed confidence in the leadership of Tarique Rahman, adding that the government attached the highest priority to the case.

He expressed gratitude to all officials involved in the case, including the investigating officer and state prosecutors, for ensuring a swift trial process.

Earlier on Sunday, Judge Masrur Salekin of the Dhaka Metropolitan Child Violence Prevention Tribunal sentenced the main accused, Sohel Rana, and his wife Swapna Khatun to death and imposed fines of Tk 5 lakh and Tk 2 lakh respectively.

The verdict, delivered on June 7, concluded a fast-tracked trial process that was completed in just four working days, drawing widespread attention across the country.
