PABNA, June 30 (v7n): A husband and wife died after being electrocuted while fishing in a pond in the Ataikula area of Pabna Sadar Upazila on Tuesday evening. The incident occurred around 6:30 PM in Kuchiamora Uttarpara village. The deceased were identified as Shabdul Pramanik, 35, and his wife Asha Khatun, 25, both residents of the village under the jurisdiction of Ataikula Police Station.
Ataikula Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Mujibur Rahman confirmed the details of the accident. Quoting the victims' family, the OC explained that an live electric wire passing over the pond next to their residence had been propped up and secured with a thin bamboo stick. While the couple was fishing in the pond in the afternoon, the wire suddenly slipped off the bamboo stick and fell directly into the water, immediately electrocuting them both.
Family members noticed the accident, quickly turned off the main power switch, and pulled the couple out of the water. However, both Shabdul and Asha had already died on the spot. OC Mujibur Rahman added that a police team inspected the scene following the incident. He noted that no official complaint has been filed by the family yet, but legal action will be taken if a formal complaint is received.
