Narsingdi, Jul 06 (V7N) — BNP Joint Secretary General and Narsingdi-1 Member of Parliament Khairul Kabir Khokon has alleged that the previous government failed to serve the interests of marginalized people because it remained in power by using the administration for political purposes.

He made the remarks while addressing a discussion meeting organized at the Narsingdi Deputy Commissioner's conference room on Monday to mark National Rural Development Day.

Khokon alleged that the previous administration focused on partisan interests, corruption and political influence instead of ensuring public welfare.

He also claimed that widespread irregularities occurred in the misuse and embezzlement of public funds during the previous government's tenure.

Emphasizing the need for good governance, the BNP leader said combating corruption and preventing the misuse of public resources require collective efforts from all sectors of society.

"Everyone must work together to stop corruption and looting. No institution should be run on partisan considerations. Transparency and accountability must be ensured in every sphere of public service," he said.

Khokon also called for building a broad-based social movement involving government officials, civil society and citizens to resist corruption and irregularities wherever they occur.

He said strengthening accountability and ensuring transparent governance are essential for achieving sustainable rural development and improving the lives of ordinary people.
