PATUAKHALI, July 8, (v7n) – At least 13 fishermen have gone missing after three fishing trawlers capsized separately in the Bay of Bengal off Kuakata in Patuakhali due to stormy winds and rough seas.
Acting President of the Mohipur Fish Arat Owners' Association Raju Ahmed Raja told BSS today that a small trawler carrying six fishermen capsized near Char Bijoy around 1 pm. "The trawler owner, Masud Majhi, was rescued alive, but the remaining five fishermen are still missing," he said.
In a second incident, the trawler FB Mohima of Fakirhat, carrying 18 fishermen, capsized about 17 kilometres off the coast yesterday evening. As of Wednesday noon, 16 fishermen had been rescued, while two remained missing.
Earlier, on July 5, another trawler owned by Imadul of Kharida village in Galachipa overturned about 60 kilometres into the Bay with 11 fishermen aboard. Five were rescued, while six are still missing.
Senior Kalapara Upazila Fisheries Officer Apu Saha said the Coast Guard is conducting rescue operations to locate the missing fishermen.
