To mitigate health risks associated with the intense heatwave, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) has issued a set of eight guidelines, urging the public to adhere to them.
Recognizing the severity of the heatwave across the country, the DGHS emphasizes the importance of awareness in maintaining good health during such extreme weather conditions.
The guidelines particularly highlight individuals at highest risk, including children, the elderly, persons with disabilities, and those engaged in outdoor occupations such as daily wage earners, rickshaw pullers, farmers, and construction workers, as well as individuals with underlying health conditions such as heart disease and high blood pressure.
The instructions provided are as follows:
- Ensure adequate hydration by consuming 2.5 to 3 litres of safe water daily and refrain from consuming street food and drinks.
- Take frequent breaks in shaded or cool areas.
- Bathe multiple times if necessary to cool down.
- Opt for white or light-colored loose cotton clothing to stay cool.
- Seek medical advice promptly if you have pre-existing health conditions, such as diabetes or kidney disease, to manage summer-related health concerns.
- Prioritize mental health and well-being during hot weather conditions.
- Implement self-care measures and encourage others to prioritize their health during the summer.
- For health-related inquiries, utilize the health helpline "16263" as needed.
