Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad (JS) for the fourth consecutive term was unanimously chosen. Dr. Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury is a member of Parliament (MP) representing the Rangpur-6 (Pirganj) seat of the 12th Jatiya Sangsad (JS).

Chaired by Deputy Speaker Shamsul Huq Tuku, who was declared the winner of the Speaker election in the House, the 12th Jatiya Sangsad started its first session.

Then, at the Jatiya Sangsad President's chamber, newly elected Speaker Dr. Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury took the oath of office. Administering the oath was President Mohammed Shahabuddin.

The ceremony was attended by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Wife of the President Dr Rebeka Sultana was also present during the oath-taking ceremony, among others.

Obaidul Quader, a treasury bench lawmaker, proposed the proposal to elect a new speaker, and Chief Whip Noor-E-Alam Chowdhury backed it.

Dr. Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury was congratulated by the Chief Whip and Deputy Speaker following her election as Speaker.
