Savar, August 12– Newly appointed Chief Justice Syed Refat Ahmed paid his respects at the National Memorial in Savar and the National Shaheed Minar in Dhaka on Monday morning, shortly after his swearing-in ceremony.

The Chief Justice began his day by honoring the martyrs of the Liberation War at the National Memorial in Savar around 7:00 AM. Following the tribute, he signed the visitation book, marking his respects and reflections on the significance of the memorial.

At 8:50 AM, Chief Justice Syed Refat Ahmed visited the National Shaheed Minar in Dhaka, where he paid homage to the martyrs of the 1952 Language Movement by offering wreaths. In a significant gesture, he also paid tribute to the martyrs of the ongoing anti-discrimination student movement at the same location.

The tribute ceremony was attended by Justice Md. Ashfaqul Islam of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court and several judges from the High Court Division, demonstrating solidarity and respect for the historical movements and sacrifices.

This comes a day after Syed Refat Ahmed was officially sworn in as the new Chief Justice of Bangladesh at Bangabhaban, with President Md. Sahabuddin administering the oath around 1:15 PM on Sunday, August 11.
