Dhaka, August 20-- Dhaka's Metrorail, which has been shut down due to attacks and vandalism during recent anti-discrimination student protests, is scheduled to resume service next Sunday, according to the Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges.

Noble Den, the information officer of the ministry, confirmed on Tuesday that Metrorail employees have returned to their duties and the authority is optimistic about starting operations on the announced date.

Earlier, Muhammad Fawzul Kabir Khan, adviser to the Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges, had stated that efforts would be made to reopen the Metrorail within seven days. The service, initially planned to restart on Saturday, faced delays due to employee strikes and continued disruptions.

The Metrorail service was suspended on July 18 for security reasons amidst student protests. On July 19, significant damage was inflicted on Kazipara and Mirpur-10 stations, leading to their temporary closure. The authorities have decided to reopen the Metrorail, excluding these affected stations for now.
